Alabama Literacy Act
The Alabama Literacy Act was signed into law on June 10, 2019, and became effective September 1, 2019. The law states that all 3rd grade students (with a few 'good cause exemptions') shall demonstrate sufficient reading skills in order to be promoted to 4th grade. The retention component of the Alabama Literacy Act goes into effect during the 2023-2024 school year.
